Insight into Famous Beatles Top Hits

Hey RRR,

This week, we are diving into the meaning behind some of The Beatles top hit songs. Many artists find inspiration in their personal lives. By looking into the meaning behind some of these top hits, we can relate to these artists and connect with them on a personal level.

"Hey Jude"

"Hey Jude" was written by Paul McCartney with some help from John Lennon. McCartney wrote the song for John Lennon's son, Julian. Julian was experiencing a lot of unrest as his father, John, had a public affair which led to his parents divorcing.

McCartney wanted to give Julian some happy moments that brought hope that things would get better.

The song was originally called "Hey Jules" but it did not sound great musically, so McCartney changed it to Jude.

Lennon thought "Hey Jude" was about McCartney saying it was 'ok to leave Cynthia [his present wife] and marry his lover.

The song connects with the audience because it reminds us of the hope that things will get better. It reminds us of the love and care that a friend shares.

"Let It Be"

"Let It Be" is a spiritual song that resonates with people and evokes strong emotion. Paul McCartney's mother, Mary, who had just passed came to him in a dream one night and told him "It's gonna be ok. Just let it be..."

When this dream occurred, the band was breaking up. McCartney immediately turned to song to get him through the tough times by using this dream of his mother guiding him as inspiration.

His lyrics "... in times of trouble, Mother Mary comes to me. Speaking words of wisdom. Let it be." McCartney is using his mother's words and his heartbreak to create a piece of lyrical genius.

When people asked about "Mother Mary" having any reference to the Virgin Mary, The Beatles left it open for people to interpret.

"Here Comes The Sun"

"Here Comes The Sun" was written by George Harrison. It offers people hope during difficult times that tomorrow is a new day.

Harrison writes this song using his spiritual outlook of the world to draw people to the promise of a fresh start.

How did "Here Comes The Sun" come to be?

Harrison was playing absentee at a Beatles meeting that dealt with the business side of the band. However, Harrison hated going to these meetings. So instead of attending the meeting, he went to Eric Clapton's house.

Harrison was having a tough time of it as The Beatles were broken, he was arrested for possession of marijuana, he had surgery to remove his tonsils, and he was isolated from his bandmates.

"Here Comes The Sun" lyrics were inspired by a beautiful spring day after a long winter while Clapton and Harrison walked around Clapton's garden.

Harrison said in an interview that the song "just came" to him.

The Beatles wrote so many timeless pieces that resonate with the listeners everyday. They took everyday hardships and found hope. While they ended up breaking up the band, their lyrics stay with us as a reminder to look for a better tomorrow, enjoy the little things of life, and spread love
