Rock & Roll Meets Music: Meet the Author Erin Wall

Hi Rock and Roll Runway fans (RRR)! My name is Erin, an enthusiastic junior who is majoring in both Communication and Business Management at Mercyhurst University. I am so excited to share with you our excitement and love for rock and roll music as well as the infamous fashion that ruled that time.

   How did I get into my love for music? 

I grew up around music. My grandpa owned a music store, and some of my aunts and uncles grew up playing the accordion. As a kid, I watched my sister fall in love with learning how to play the piano. I wanted to be just like her so when I was old enough, I started to take lessons. I fell in love with the idea that I got to tell a story without using any words. Even though I never got to play music with my grandpa, I knew that our love for music connected us through multiple generations. 

My passion for rock and roll stems from my aunt who opened the musical doors for me. My greatest childhood memory where my passion is founded on is dancing in the living room to the greatest music since the 1950s. My love for rock and roll grew from being able to dance freely, express myself, and rock on to some of the greatest hits of the generations. 

How did I get into my love for fashion? 

    While music has made a significant impact on me, fashion has also contributed. Before going to dance with my aunt, I would sneak into her closet and put on some of her outfits. It was like our own concert where throughout the night we would change outfits. My love for fashion grew as I began to see the freedom and expression in it.

    Growing up my style was always evolving. I pulled a lot of design choices and ideas from the shows I was watching. As I have gotten older, I have grown into my own style that fits me. That is the fun of fashion! It is not set in stone! Rock and roll artists all have their own unique style that fits their image. I am excited for RRR to share with you how their fashion image impacts their rock and roll image.

Fun Facts About Me:

• In my free time I look up concerts I can go to
• My favorite thing to wear is shorts and a sweatshirt.
• I am a huge volleyball fan. 

Why read "Rock and Roll Runway?"

    Rock and Roll Runway is a project that dives into the history of the music and fashion of some of the greatest musicians that have been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
